DO YOU think tennis players have grunt coaches? Or different grunts for clay and grass, doubles and singles? Are there grunt- therapists coaxing the best from the chest of leading players? Watching Wimbledon, it struck me that some of the unearthly noises the women screech, with the same decibel rating as foghorns on modest supertankers, could not possibly be managed without training, endless practice and quite possibly throat surgery.
Back in my wooden racket days as the scourge of the courts, I must admit I made a noise after most shots ... something like 'Oh ****', filling in a suitable epithet for in the net, long or wide, or over the fence.See the full content of this document
