Takeaway Owner Lands a Pounds 1,000 Hygiene Fine

THE owner of a Cantonese takeaway has been fined pounds 1,000 after mouse droppings were found at the premises. Birmingham City Council Environmental Health officers temporarily shut down the Cantonese Express takeaway on Dudley Road, Winson Green, last August, after finding mice droppings next to a bag of onions, inadequate pest proofing, dirty kitchen utensils and other problems during a routine inspection.

Stavros Elia, aged 41, of Oval Road, Erdington, pleaded guilty to five charges relating to food hygiene contraventions at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday.
