A DOTING father who was told he did not have long to live after the birth of his baby son has defied the odds by surviving nearly six years with breakthrough treatment and a passion to see his only child grow up.

Finance auditor Paul Robinson, of Olorenshaw Road, Sheldon, was admitted to hospital with stomach pains shortly after the premature birth of his first child Zac in November 2003 - only to be devastated with the news he had a rare type of cancer that cannot be cured.
