ABOUT 200 staff at Birmingham International Airport were offered six-month unpaid sabbaticals as part of a programme of cutbacks - but only one person took up the offer.

Leave of absence was offered to baggage handlers and checkin staff employed by Servisair during consultations over plans announced last month to make up to 60 redundancies to fight off the impact of the recession.
