THE chances of Birmingham International Airport's pounds 120 million runway extension being built in the near future appear dead in the water today after BIA chief executive Paul Kehoe admitted the money was not in place to start work and the business case was "marginal at best".

Mr Kehoe said the airport board was struggling to borrow money at reasonable rates of interest and was, in any case, yet to be convinced that the 400-metre extension will be profitable.
