A RESIDENTS' group fighting expansion plans at the Edgbaston county cricket ground has accused Birmingham City Council leader Mike Whitby of wasting money by setting up a pounds 20 million loan for the project when public services are stretched.

The Cannon Hill Neighbourhood Forum, which is seeking to overturn planning permission for a pounds 32 million ground enhancement scheme at the high court, accused Coun Whitby of being taken in by "disingenuous cant" from Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
