CITY Council chiefs have set themselves on collision course with the trade unions, binmen and council workers by imposing controversial new contracts which remove shift and overtime allowances from 26,000 staff.

The Birmingham Contract has been dubbed 'martini' by unions as the council can force staff to work 'anytime, anyplace, anywhere' and is one of two moves likely to provoke union action.
