FOR many passionate devotees of the beautiful game, the memories must have been flooding back after your recent editorial, (Birmingham Mail, July 11).

As you pointed out, Villa Park did host the 2-1 victory achieved by Argentina over Spain in the first group World Cup match in 1966, when I believe striker Luis Artime settled this encounter with two clinical strikes at the Holte End.
