MASTER marksman Kevin Phillips today revealed that Alex McLeish has assured him of his Blues future - and that suits him just fine. Phillips, who turned 36 during Blues' tour of Austria, has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, notably Leicester City. It has tended to be on the assumed basis that he won't figure much this season in the Premier League. Phillips said he wasn't naive enough to think he would start every game at his age, and with the other alternatives available to McLeish. But that didn't mean he wasn't happy at St Andrew's. "It's news to me, these stories, I haven't got a clue about Leicester," Phillips told the Birmingham Mail.
"I have had my chat with the manager in the week, I'm happy where I am. "I have said all along that I was determined to help this club get in the Premier League and now I intend to enjoy a season in it. "If the club didn't want me, then that's a different matter. The manager has assured me that the club do still want me, he wants me to play a part this year, he wants my experience here and I'mhappy with that. "I know I will getminutes this year as it's only natural. There will be injuries, loss of form, so I am going to get my chance and I just need to be patient." Phillips was Blues' 14-goal topscorer during the Championship promotion season. He netted many crucial strikes, including the goal that effectively clinched the second automatic spot at Reading on the final day.See the full content of this document
