FOLLOWING Neil Elkes' article in the Birmingham Mail on December 10, "Birming l -ham binmen vote for strike leading up to Christmas", it is necessary to put the record straight. The bonus was removed from refuse collectors in August 2008 and replaced by Birmingham City Council with an imposed pay deal.
The trade unions have maintained consistently that this pay deal was discriminatory and have suggested alternative equality proofed pay structures be discussed. Birmingham City Council has always refused to enter into such negotiations.See the full content of this document
