PIONEERING solar panels set to save more than pounds 1,500 per year have been installed on the roof of a West Midlands Fire Service education centre.

The flagship Safeside centre, in Nechells, now has panels which could generate up to 3,000 kWh of electricity per annum - enough to power an average home in the West Midlands for a year.
