FRENCH artist Henri Matisse was confined to his bed and nearing the end of his life when he produced a series of images that remain some of his most iconic.

Using brightly painted sheets of paper, he created vibrant cut- outs featuring dancing figures and patterns inspired by nature, examples of which are currently on display at The New Art Gallery, Walsall.
