ON SATURDAY August 18, 1990, on the spot where Walsall's sewage once freely flowed, Sir Stanley Matthews stood before nearly 10,000 people and cut the ribbon - Bescot Stadium was open.

Sir Stanley uttered a few words, Scottish Highland pipers piped, parachutists landed with the match ball and Walsall and Villa christened the new stadium with a pre-season friendly. Dear old Fellows Park was history.
